How to start a website?
1. You need a good layout.2. A good content.
3. Be unique, don't copy other peoples work. If you do give them credit.
Don't do this?
1. Some I just visit are too short. I really love visiting sites that has lots of contents. That makes me want to come back more and I would truly enjoy.
2. Flashy sites. Sites that would blind my eyes. @-@....too much color on your site makes your visitor get so devasted...
3. I hate websites that are too repeative...what I mean by this is that there to clone like. I mean the content is the same and is not unique not trying to say my site is that way. But, at least my layout is not like others.
4. If you want to have a good website be yourself if you can come up with the content give credit at least.

Html
You need to know html in order to make a good website. Don't use page builders and junk. I suggest you go to these websites to know more about html.

Hosting
FreeWebs- Offers 100MB of space, and no ads whatsoever. But, there's a downfall on this host you only get to have 50 files and the uploads is outrage I really won't suggest to have your site here. In my opinion I would host my site as blog with freewebs not like a site. It limits the files and the html editor really sucks.
GeoCities- Offers 15MB of space, unlimited amount of files, and step-by-step-do-it-yourself pagebuilders. It has ads but, you can always add a code for stoping adds the hourly bandwidth limit, it a good host after all cause' it let's you upload 5 files at a time.
AngelFire- Offers 20MB of space, and ad-supported. You cannot close the ads. I would suggest using this to upload.
Tripod- Offers 20MB of space, 1GB of transfer per month, and ad-supported. Good for small un-popular sites because there is also an hourly bandwidth limit. I would NOT suggest using this one.
Freepgs- Offers 25MB of space, no ads and nothing. Offers For FREE: PHP, SSI, Custom Errors, FTP. Yes, FTP....so this is an excellent host for you guys who wants to make a nice website.
Tripod- Offers 20MB of space, 1GB of transfer per month, and ad-supported. Good for small un-popular sites because there is also an hourly bandwidth limit. I would NOT suggest using this one. The ads blows and there too picky...
Other stuff to do
Image Format- To my experienced with saving images and uploading them in to servers. I would suggest .JPEG or .jpg format. It loads faster so visitors wont get annoyed. However, .jpg or .JPEG formats are at a much poorer quality than .bmp images. but, it could still have a fair amount of image resolution. .bmp formated images are bigger and takes longer to load but, however, I won't suggest to put in your site. It takes ups lots of space and it's very big files. Choose whichever format you want. I personal suggest to never choose bmp cause' is really retarted. The reason I know this cause' I've been testing all the images. Trying to come up wich one the best. And I really love saving my images in to .gif formats are for animations or moving images and will support transparency. Though it is not as big as .bmp formats, it is larger than .jpg formats. But they're at a pretty good quality. Png formats usually very high quality files pics. and usually, free servers don't support that file name. If you want to have that file format. It won't support only gifs, and jpgs. You can't go wrong with that.
Want your site to be Popular and get more Traffic?- If you want your site to be getting hits I suggest you join Topsites.Try adding your site to popular search engines. There is an aol directory, yahoo directory and much more. Just take your time to this and you'll be very satisfied of how much traffic you can get for your site. Advertising your site-Is always important not to spam your site to much don't try to annoyed others sites by doing that. Signing guestbooks, tagboards, joining forums is a good thing. you gain more traffic.
